Shallow Studios - The Fine Art of Vincent M. Farquharson
The Zen Garden Coffee Table is the first piece of furniture I’ve built in my adult life. The idea came to me fifteen years ago when I realized I would be on an endless search for the perfect coffee table for my apartment. Over time, my tastes changed, but the table remained just a thing of fantasy. A friend suggested I hire someone to make it for me, but I knew my limited knowledge of woodworking would only result in a dream half-fulfilled. I had to make it myself.

Foolproof (in Theory) is my first experiment in installation. I must admit that I’ve never had any interest in this type of art in the past. Recently, however, I acquired several exit signs and some bad ideas began to percolate. As usual, I ask that you let me know if you find them remotely interesting.
This series was created in November 2003. I was experimenting with some photographs I found in one of my archives. I had no idea where the photos came from, but I wanted to re-use them instead of throwing them away. I fired up a copy of Photoshop and some shareware image manipulation tools and made digital collages based on the originals. The images are all named after songs by Cocteau Twins, because that was what I was listening to at the time. I decided to call them Digital Escapes because while I worked, time seemed to escape me. As usual, I ask that you let me know if you find them remotely interesting.
